In 2003, Boris Lurie (1924-2008) published his German poems Geschriebigtes - Gedichtigtes with frommann-holzboog Verlag in Germany. Now, 21 years later, frommann-holzboog Verlag is publishing the English translation of the poems in collaboration with the Boris Lurie Art Foundation. The renowned and award-winning translator Andrew Shields has done the translation. The result is an impressive book about which the publisher has the following to say:
"Lurie's poetry develops a new power in the poetic translation into English by Andrew Shields. The pointed, fast-spoken language of the New Yorkers, which has characterised Lurie's everyday life since 1946, is perhaps already present in the German original. The free expression, corrupted by nothing and no one, is intended to be in his poetry, his art and his way of life in a fighting attitude." (Eckhart Holzboog)
